Our boxes come with large cleats for easier handling than inset handles. We also dislike inset handles for the "man-made rot holes" and cold spots they create during winter.

NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE: we use large cleats on the front and back of the boxes, instead of recessed handholds. Experienced beekeepers know how valuable cleats are for lifting and prying boxes apart. Cleats also act as reinforcement for the box. Joints are glued and fastened with strength and longevity in mind.

Recessed handles may look pretty, but many beekeepers find them difficult to handle with gloves on, they create cold spots in winter, and they're "man-made rot holes" that weaken the box.
